The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo has revealed the name of Scotland’s first capybara pup born in 18 years and the adorable youngster is now officially called Toly.
The lovable capybara, born to proud parents Luna and Rodney earlier this month, has already become a favourite with keepers as he continues to grow in confidence and explore more of his home.
Keepers are still keeping a close eye on Toly as capybara pups can be vulnerable in the early weeks, but the youngster is doing well and slowly becoming more adventurous each day.
Jonny Appleyard, animal keeper said: “We are so proud of Luna and Rodney, they’re already doing an incredible job of looking after Toly. He is growing more confident every day and it’s been amazing watching him start to explore more with mum close behind.
“Capybara pups grow up quickly so we recommend visiting the zoo soon if you want to catch a glimpse of Toly while he’s still so tiny and adorable.”
The youngster has already won over visitors at Edinburgh Zoo and marks a very special arrival as the first capybara to be born in Scotland in nearly two decades.
